Healthcare Security in Dublin & Ireland

Healthcare buildings must stay open and welcoming while protecting staff, patients and medicines. Security here depends on officers who stay calm and treat people with respect.

Security for Healthcare Facilities

People arrive at healthcare settings worried, in pain or confused, and staff too often meet verbal abuse and sometimes violence. An officer in a clinic, primary care centre or care home is there first of all to make staff and patients feel safe: to be present at reception and in waiting areas, to notice tension building and to calm a situation with words long before it becomes physical.

Access is the second concern. Members of the public should be able to reach reception but not treatment rooms, staff areas, records or medicine stores. Officers manage visitors, check that restricted doors stay closed and patrol the building and car park, particularly in the evening when few staff are on duty.

For premises that close at night, we provide lock-up visits, key holding and alarm response, and CCTV for entrances, car parks and other shared areas, positioned with care for patient privacy.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do your officers deal with aggressive behaviour?
By staying calm, listening and talking the situation down wherever possible. Physical intervention is a last resort. When there is a threat to safety, the officer calls the Gardaí.
Which healthcare settings do you cover?
GP practices and primary care centres, clinics, nursing homes and care facilities, and other medical buildings.
Can CCTV be used in a healthcare building?
Yes, in areas such as entrances, receptions and car parks, with clear signs. Cameras should not record consultations or other private areas, and we take that into account in the design.
Can you provide cover only in the evenings?
Yes. Evening and out-of-hours cover is common, when there are fewer staff in the building.
